Explosion protection beyond intrinsic safety

Цель: Изучить тему «Explosion protection beyond intrinsic safety» и закрепить её практическими заданиями и самопроверкой.

2 акад. часа чтение и разбор теории, решение задач, работа со схемой или виртуальным стендом и проверка понимания.

Основной материал

Other protection methods include flameproof/explosion-proof enclosure, increased safety, pressurization/purge, encapsulation and others depending standards. Each prevents ignition by different physical principle.

Ingress vs explosion protection

IP66 does not mean explosion-proof. IP rating describes ingress of solids/water; Ex marking describes hazardous area protection. This confusion is common and dangerous.

Temperature class

Equipment surface temperature must be below ignition-related limits for gas/dust group and temperature class. Ambient range also matters.

Практическая работа

Compare labels IP66, Ex ia IIC T4 and Ex d. Explain which property each communicates and why one cannot replace another.

Самопроверка

• What does IP rating mean?

• What does Ex marking mean?

• What is temperature class?

• Why ambient range matters?

• Name one protection method besides IS.
